How to order the right cartridge the first time

The details that prevent a wrong toner sitting in a box.

Most cartridge mix-ups happen because the box was ordered from a similar model number, not the one on the printer. A 30-second look at the machine saves a second trip.

Find the model, not the nickname

Look for a label on the printer itself, usually on the front, back, or inside the cartridge door. Write down the full model, including letters. “HP laser” is not enough. “HP LaserJet Pro M404dn” is.
